Beethoven's music represents a new age and temperament, constantly searching for the unknown. The revolutionary spirit of the late 18th century is reflected in his music and by the time of his death in 1827, he was already seen as the ultimate Romantic figured tempered with Classical balance. This concert presents two of Beethoven's monumental sonatas for piano: the Tempest and Appassionata, two works which truly express the composer's 'anguish and triumph'.
