The feast of St George, which is celebrated every year in on the 3rd Sunday of July, is without doubt, one of the La Stella Philharmonic Society's major annual highlights. The one-week long celebrations include, four demonstrations with the different statues of St George, a grand march on the eve of the festa, the traditional morning march in Independence Square and the solemn procession from the Basilica on Sunday evening.
The festa will feature the participation of nine bands besides the La Stella Band. Six Maltese bands will be performing during the feast of St George in six different functions. Spectacular fireworks will be let-off from the Gelmus hill during the week, peaking on the last three days. Other ground-based pyrotechnic shows feature daily. Street decorations are major attraction during St George's Feast, together with the revelry generated by the different marches, a trademark of Victoria's feast of St George.
All of this entails a significant cost for the La Stella Philharmonic Society, which is the organiser of the external festivities. We continue to appeal to the generosity of the members and supporters of the La Stella Philharmonic Society and the feast of St George, so that this week-long community celebration, a unique feature in Gozo's summer, remains sustainable.
