Special Discounted Opera Tickets for Students

17 October 2011

Students 25 years old or under may benefit from heavily specially discounted tickets offered by Teatru Astra of Gozo for the upcoming opera production Norma, held at the same theatre on Thursday 27th and Saturday 29th October 2011.

The Teatru Astra is once again repeating this scheme to enable students to familiarise themselves with opera and enjoy the marvellous experience of this beautiful art form. In this way, a new generation of young opera lovers may be fostered. The scheme is being repeated for the fourth year running, after it was initially launched with success in 2008.

200 tickets are thus being made available on a first-come first-served basis to students aged 25 years or under in Malta or Gozo for the first night of the opera production on Thursday 27th October. The tickets have been heavily reduced from the original price of €50 to €10 per student, with any other accompanying adult also benefiting from a 20% discount at the price of €40.

Booking may be done on 21550985 or 79256897, or via email at [email protected]

The Teatru Astra opera production of Bellini’s Norma sees a cast of high repute with Greek soprano Dimitra Theodossiou in the title-role, Italian tenor Antonino Interisano as Pollione, Romanian mezzo-soprano Oana Andra as Adalgisa and Italian bass Dario Russo as Oroveso.

These leading roles will be supported by young singers, Gozitan soprano Dorienne Portelli as Clotilde while Maltese tenor Cliff Zammit Stevens steps into his first ever opera role as Flavio.

Norma also involves the Teatru Astra Opera Chorus under the direction of Maria Frendo while the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra will be directed by Prof. Mro. Joseph Vella. Italian stage director Enrico Stinchelli is being entrusted with this traditional production.

The opera production opens the tenth edition of Festival Mediterranea. A full list of events is available online.

Norma and Festival Mediterranea are being organised by volunteers at the Teatru Astra in collaboration with Bank of Valletta, the Malta Tourism Authority, Vodafone Malta Foundation, Malta International Airport, the Ministry for Gozo, the Ministry for Finance, the Economy and Investment, the Malta Council for Culture and the Arts and the Victoria Local Council.
